Every year, World Soil Day is celebrated on 5th December. The purpose of celebrating this day is to make people aware of the importance of soil. Because in the changing times and to increase the income, chemical fertilizers are being used continuously in the soil. Due to this, the fertilizer power of the soil is decreasing and the biological properties are getting destroyed. In addition, the fertility of the soil is also decreasing. Therefore it is important to understand the importance of soil. The right information about soil should reach more and more people. That is why this day has special significance. For the first time, World Soil Day was observed on 5 December 2014.

History of celebrating soil day on 5th December


World Soil Day is celebrated on 5 December because it was the birthday of King HM Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand on 5 December. He was one of the main supporters of this initiative.


The United Nations declared 5 December


On 20 December 2013, the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly declared World Soil Day to be celebrated on 5 December. Let us inform that in 2002 itself, the International Union of Soil Sciences had announced to celebrate World Soil Day every year.
