The literary meaning of an essay is to try to do something. So writing a good essay requires regular practice. Without regular practice, one cannot write a good and impressive essay. It is because essay writing is an art. An essay is an expression of Ideas systematically. To form ideas on any subject and to give them systematic way make our expression impressive. All these things will be learned by observation and practice.
In an essay,
1. we are asked to express our ideas on a given subject.
2. So before we attempt to write an essay we think over the given subject.
3. As we think over the subject ideas begin to pass through our mind we systematically arrange them.
4. We put this idea in different paragraphs.
5. Each paragraph contains a particular point or idea.
6. The essay should be written directly and straightforwardly.
7. The beginning of an essay must be striking and interesting to the reader.
8. The introductory paragraph should be brief and pregnant with ideas.
9. The last paragraph should be striking and natural.
10. The last paragraph is always the conclusion of any essay.
11. It must be impressive.
12. The essay must be written in the easy, natural, and correct language.
13. Vague or difficult words should not be used.
14. There should be no grammatical mistakes.
15. Sentences should be short and emphatic.
16. Extra care should be given to punctuation.
So, like all artistic compositions, an essay has a beginning, a middle, and an end. It is said that writing an essay is like the making of a garland. We take flower after flower and knit them together to form a garland. Similarly, we put together sentence after sentence and give them a unified harmonious shape.
Thus, the above-mentioned rules can help one to learn the art of essay writing. One can be a good essay written following the rules and making a regular practice. Practice makes a man perfect.
