On 26 January 1950, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, declared the historic birth of the Indian Republic by unfurling the Indian National Flag after a 21-gun salute. Our country became an independent state 894 days after getting rid of British rule. Since then every year Republic Day is celebrated with pride and gaiety across the nation.
This almost 2-decade old journey was conceptualized as a dream in the year 1930 and the brave revolutionaries of our India made it a reality in the year 1950 as a republic. Since then, India was formed as a secular and democratic nation and a historical event came true.
The initiative to make the nation independent was taken during the Lahore session of the Indian National Congress at midnight of 31 December 1929.
